While sometimes it may seem as though all of recorded music is available by a quick search on services such as Spotify, Google Play, or iTunes (to name just three), the truth is that a significant amount of recorded music is only available in analog formats, such as cassette tapes. So, whether your interest is in digitizing cassettes from childhood or a mix tape from an old high-school flame, B&H has a range of solutions to help you enjoy your analog music in a convenient digital format. There are two approaches to digitizing cassette tapes. The first is to buy a cassette player or combination media player that includes a CD burner or USB sound card with software for recording to a computer.

The second approach is to combine an existing cassette player with a USB, Thunderbolt, or Firewire (depending on your computer’s I/O) audio interface or with a digital field recorder that accepts the analog line level output of your cassette player. Approach 1 The easiest way to digitize your cassettes is by purchasing a device such as the. Not much larger than a cassette itself, the unit is USB bus powered. It comes with ION’s EZ vinyl/Tape Converter software for Mac and windows which provides step by step guidance for transferring you music via iTunes. For users interested in also digitizing their cassette collection to CD’s or USB flash media without the need for a computer, take a look at the. For users also interested in digitizing their cassette collection to CDs or USB flash media without the need for a computer, take a look at the.

Approach 2 For users who prefer a more DIY approach and who already have a working cassette player with a line level output, consider purchasing a simple line level cable for connecting to the line level input and using your computer’s internal sound card. Alternatively, if your computer does not have a line level input on the bus and you do not currently own an audio interface that accepts line level inputs, you can purchase an analog-to-digital-over-USB converter, such as the A wide variety of paid (Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Logic), as well as free (Audacity, Garageband for Macs, etc) digital audio workstations (DAW), are available online and from B&H to meet your needs. Depending on what you choose, be sure to follow the software’s help section for setting up your audio interface or soundcard to record to the software. Alternatively, if you do not want to use a computer and DAW to record, you could consider using a digital field recorder with a line level input such as the. You can then load the tracks into a computer at a later point for editing, labeling, and organizing from the recorder’s microSD/SDHC card. Connecting your cassette player to your audio interface, field recorder, or internal soundcard will depend on the input and output connectors of the respective devices. These may be stereo 3.5mm line level connectors or a pair of unbalanced RCA connectors.

Fortunately, B&H offers an extensive catalog of for connecting your equipment so you can accomplish your goal. Hi - I have bought a Behringer UCA 222, hoping it would be the device I needed to convert my almost 100 mixtapes.

However, I cannot make it work. I connect my cassette player's RCA 'out' plugs to the Behringer device's corresponding RCA 'in' plugs, and the Behinger's cable to my MaBook Air's USB. I press play on the cassette player, click the record button in Audacity, but it does not register any signal. Switchen the Behringer's monitor on and off, or changing its output volume does not help.

Oddly, if I plug a headphone in the Behringer's headphone jack, I can hear the music from the cassette without problems. What am I doing wrong? Hi - You've got the right idea. Hi Charles - If your tape player has a 1/8' (3.5mm) female audio output (headphone or line out) you will need a 'Y' adapter to connect your tape player to the Behringer UCA202. The 3' allows you to connect your portable audio devices to your home theater system, portable computer speakers, or any other device's RCA inputs. Its gold-plated connectors protect against corrosion while ensuring clear signal paths for your audio.

The 1/8' stereo mini connector is recessed, allowing it to be used with most MP3 players and smart devices without having to remove their protective case. Sorry to say, but I am back again and obviously out of my league with this. I have 4 audio tapes I want to convert to a digital format on my computer.

I have a cassette player and have inserted a tape. I have Y-cable (you recommended) plugged into the headphone jack on the player.

(These tapes are recordings of 2 of my children from 40 years ago. I would like to be able to eventually burn them a disk with these recordings.) The Y-cable is plugged into the 'input' of the UCA202 (which you also recommended) which in turn is plugged into my laptop.

I have plugged headphones into the UCA and I can hear the recording when I press 'play' on the audio cassette player. I have the volume turned up to max on the UCA. While everything may seem to be fine, I cannot tell where, if anywhere, the recoding is going on my computer. I see a red light in the little area to the left of the headphone input on the UCA and the USB light is green and lit. Can you direct me further, please. Sorry for being so dumb about this. Hi Charlie - The file is created and stored on your hard drive.

Up to 24-Bit/192 kHz Resolution.Exactly my question too, I als think the analog to digital capture is 25% of the job. There is a lot of 'tidying-up' to do after, in particular just tagging and cataloging. Since shazam can take an audio fingerprint from your device microphone, then consult an online audio fingerprint DB and come back with a hit, ie; Song name, Artist etc.It would seem like it should not be a very big step to 'run through' the music you just transferred from casette, take a fingerprint sample(s) then, consult the DB and come back with a hit. I know in the braodcast industry they are using tools like that to 'on the fly' describe with text what is being said in the audio track. So not sooo far fetched.Any audio engineers with computer programming skills!??

:a so, i bought an ion ttusb10, and the ez vinyl converter worked wonderfully backing up my first 70 lp’s into itunes. I took a break for a while and tried to resume my arduous task today. It converted fine, but i kept getting the error message: “unable to export to iTunes. Please make sure you close active windows in iTunes.” after retrying several times, some of them would export, but then i had multiple versions of many of the tracks. However, the only open window WAS ITUNES! I tried to find this message at the apple website, but never got a single hit. What can i do?!?

Haven’t even come close to finding a reference on the net that is COMPLETELY relevant to this issue. This is the latest info that I received from ION Audacity is very cumbersome and not user friendly Thank you for contacting us and for your interest in ION Audio. I am sorry to hear of the issue that you are having. Currently the EZ Vinyl Converter is not compatible with iTunes 9.0. We are working on a fix. For the time being I would suggest that you use the Audacity program. I received an ION Profile Pro USB Turntable for Christmas. I would frequently get the “Unable to export to iTunes” message when in Step 6. After much frustration and hair pulling (and I don’t have much left) I discovered a solution. During Step 6 and after the iTunes window opens, the name and progress of the track that is being saved is shown in the top-middle of the screen. At this point, and after the blue progress bar begins to show in the Step 6 window, click on the right-pointing play triangle in the upper left-hand corner of the iTunes window. ITunes should begin playing tracks randomly from your previously saved Music Library (not the ones you are saving to iTunes). All the tracks should save to iTunes without a problem and with no duplication.

I have even found I can be on the Internet or working with other programs while the conversion process is going on. If you want to know what track is playing, go to View and then Go to Current Song. Since I made this discovery everything is working great! I am very pleased with the sound playback. I was very close to taking the turntable back. QUOTE=frankiez;2493650Another problem I’m having is that after I’m done recording it gets to the part where I list the album and song titles. On some albums even if there is 10 songs it will only give me spots for 8 song titles.

The last songs ended up not getting converted. Maybe they are converted but not imported to Itunes. If they are converted and in the pc, where can I find them and how can I import them to add them to that album? Any help will be appreciated./QUOTE Maybe the software missed the silence between tracks and a couple of tracks are actually 2 songs long? If that’s the case you can separate them with MP3 DirectCut.

PS: If the ION shows up as a sound device, you could record the album using MP3 DirectCut too. Kansas2010, I tried to download the new version when I first got my turntable but for some reason I cant find the new version on my pc. I’ve tried saving it to the desktop, into certain folders etc, but it won’t let me find it. I DO have AVG on my pc and I’m wondering if it is keeping me from seeing it and loading it up. Any help would be appreciated.

ALSO: great idea about “manually separating the track”. I’m doing this as I type this. The only drawback is that I hafta sit here to make sure I hit “new track” at the end of each song. Small price to pay I guess. I downloaded the latest software 4.1 and am having trouble. With the older software EZ vinyl would output the converted file to ‘artist/albumname/track’ in iTunes. The new software, 4.1, just outputs the files to 'Unknown Artist/Unknown Album/temp.mp3.

Whats up with the latest software? I like the latest because it lets me input all track names on one page where the older software would make me type in the track name on seperate pages. Also, the new software doesn’t appear to try to look up the album and track names for me like the old software did. I think something is fishy about #1 they hang up on your support calls and the EZ tape converter as long as your computer is connected to the internet it dosn’t work and this is me and these stuped hackers:a:a:a:a:a:a:a:a:a:a the last time i download the new version of EZ tape converter my itunes stopped working untill the new update and an uninstallation on the EZ software.

Now I must use no internet connection and an old version of EZ tape converter hint: the one my tape to pc came with when i baught it. With all due respect to those who worked on this software – it’s functionality is so limited that a person might save money by simply BUYING the songs. Specifically:.

With iTunes 10.x, none of the releases of EZ Converter work properly. The most current release will not:.

Search Gracenote to find the artist / album, etc. Even when that information is manually entered, it doesn’t wind up on your drive by artist / album, etc The older release will seek-out Gracenote - which is great - but will not copy all tracks from 1 side of an album - the final song will not get copied. With an older release of iTunes, results are also incomplete.

Does ANYONE have a working combination of EZ converter / iTunes that works 100%.
